8 Australian Brokers for Crypto Trading

Nov 23, 2021
What are the best Australian brokers for crypto trading? What other features do they have to assist traders in the market?

Throughout the years, cryptocurrency trading has gained more fans and doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. It's no surprise considering the potential from the price fluctuations. Not to mention the crypto market is open 24 hours, which means you can trade anytime you want. There are several places where you can trade crypto, from an exchange to a broker. Both are great platforms, but some might argue that using a broker is better since you can gain benefits from using leverage. For Australian traders, there are several great brokers for crypto trading to assist you.

Why You Should Consider Crypto Trading

Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that is secured in cryptography in order to make it nearly impossible to double-spend. Most of them are decentralized networks based on blockchain technology. One defining feature of cryptocurrencies is that they are generally not issued by any central authority, thus they are not affected by government interference or manipulations. Right now there are a lot of cryptocurrencies you can trade, but Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the most popular in the market.

Here are the top 2 traits that define crypto trading:

1. Volatility

Cryptocurrency is relatively new, but it exhibits extreme volatility due to huge amount of speculative interest. For example, Bitcoin managed to rise as high as $19,378 and fell to lows of $5,851 between October 2017 and October 2018. But, the volatility in this market is what makes a lot of traders excited to jump in. In fact, the rapid intraday price movements can be a great opportunity for traders to speculate on.

2. Market Hours

Since there is no centralized governance of the crypto markets, it opens for 24 hours and 7 days a week. This provides more opportunities for a trader who works full time or is generally busy. Cryptocurrency transactions take place directly between individuals on exchanges all over the world. You can come home and open your devices to start trading right away. No need to wait until the market opening hours. However, there might be some periods of downtime when the market is adjusting to infrastructural updates.

Brokers vs Exchanges

Should you trade crypto in exchanges? What about brokers who offer crypto trading? While both have advantages and disadvantages, some might argue that trading with a broker is more suitable when it involves a huge amount of money. Exchange is great for crypto HODLers who want to do some long-term or mid-term investment, but a broker is great for speculative traders who like to use different trading tools such as margin, leverage, and many more.

Another consideration is the deposit and withdrawal methods. Crypto exchanges usually have two funding options, by fiat currency or using debit and credit cards. While that seems to suffice, it does not give more choices to clients. Meanwhile, a broker has more funding options, ranging from bank transfers, various types of e-wallets including PayPal, and cryptocurrencies as well. Also, withdrawing from a broker is not as costly as the fees in exchanges. It usually varies between 0%-3%, while exchanges withdrawal fees can be as high as 6%.

I actually prefer trading cryptocurrency with brokers since it's easier to diversify portfolios with other assets.

I've read somewhere that peak trading hours are typically 8 a.m. to 4 p.m despite the market being open 24 hours. I haven't tried it tho.

A little tip, make sure the broker has your desired cryptocurrency. This is important, especially if you trade with less 'mainstream' coins.

I personally prefer exchanges since I get to check my positions anytime. I have never tried broker's app before, so not sure how that goes.
