IG warned its Twitter followers to beware of recent scams that target social media users by spamming their DMs under IG fake accounts.

The UK-based online broker IG announced that fake accounts were circulating on social media in the name of IG trying to spam traders' DMs.

The FCA-regulated broker says that they never contact clients via DM to offer learning courses, crypto sales, or anything other than client support once you contact IG.

Recent Survey on Social Media Scams

According to a recent survey of UK investors, information hype on social media encourages new investors to take high-risk investments. 58% of respondents agree that constantly hearing about certain investments in the news, on social media and from others influences them to invest in certain assets.

Data provided by the City of London Police shows Instagram and Facebook top the list of social media used by investment scammers. The city of London Police says criminals' use of social media is helping to reduce victims of common investment scams, with those under their 30s most affected. Specifically, 27.5% of all investment fraud victims who mention social media in their reports are 19-25 years old.
